Red flags abounded, but Cassie decided to ignore them. I guess I'm far more cynical than she is because I'd have kicked this man out at the first signs of his duplicity.
But, to be fair, I have a close friend who is exactly like Cassie. And she has fallen into the same traps.
This is based on a true incident. The story had me swiping through my Kindle pages to find out what happened next.

Lesson learned, by trusting someone you do not know their history leading tonfinancial destruction in your life. Good read for wome .
This is a good read. The author does a great job of weaving a good tale.
After a failed marriage, Cassie, doesn't think she would ever find love again. Although living a comfortable life financially, she wants to be loved and be in love. She meets Evan online and he sweeps her off her feet. Before she can question some inconsistencies, he has moved in and talked her into starting a business with her. When her siblings questions some of Evan's past, Cassie doesn't believe them.
This is a story of a con man taking advantage of an emotional, vulnerable woman. It draws you into the story from the start, although I found some parts a little jarring like I had missed something. Cassie's story is based on a true story and it was interesting to read how a con man can make a woman question everything she believes in. I sympathized with Cassie as she comes to grips with being conned by a man she thought she could trust. It is well written and will leave you with a better understanding on con men and how they can suck you in.
It goes without saying, Ginger Simpson is on the top of my favorite authors list. Betrayed is a great example why I love this writer. This story was based on true events, making it harder to believe embezzlement, credit card and bank account theft could happen all under the ruse of love. Cassie Fremont put herself out there for love and on-line met a dashing cowboy, Evan Dennis. Instead of being the answer to her dreams, he became the nightmare of her life.
The scary thing about this is, it could happen to any of us trusting, decent women who want nothing more than to find that someone special to share our life with. When love is involved we can easily believe the lies – especially when he’s a smooth talking, handsome, Texas boy who has a believable answer for everything. Cassie said it best when she told the police she was financially and emotionally raped.
Simpson delivers a story with well-developed, believable characters that draw you in – directly to the heart. I wanted Evan Dennis to get his just dues – but the reality Simpson shares isn’t all that easy. I’m moved by this story and it keeps haunting me months after I finished reading ‘the end.’ It’s a must read – might I add this is the best book I read in 2013! If I could give it ten stars – I would.
